Holy Cr@p!

Yet another night of sleeping 8 hours ... ahhh I could get use to this! (knock on wood, haha).

Sunday, June 28, 2009

Something happened last night ... Alexis went to bed at 10pm and woke up this morning at ..... 8:00am!!!!! I couldn't believe it!! I've forgotten what 8 hours of sleep feels like! I woke up at 7:34am and looked at the clock, I thought something must be wrong because she should have been up, so I tip toed into her room, but she was all snuggled up and fine ... some how through out the night she managed to scoot down to the top of her crib, but she was sound asleep! I went back to our room and told Derek, he couldn't believe it either. I laid in bed for a bit then expecting her to start to fuss since she heard us up, but nothing ... finally Derek said he was going to check on her, and I figured I should go and get her bottle ready because she would be a hungry girl when she got up ... Derek came down the stairs shortly after with her and I asked him if she had woken up by herself ... he said "no not really, I was kind of bugging her" ... lol ... anyways, let's hope this whole sleeping through the night keeps up and its not just a big tease!

Blue Eyed Beauty

Swimming, Swimming, in the Swimming Pool ...

We've had quite the hot weather here the past couple days, so I thought I would take advantage of it to start on a tan, so off we (Alexis and I) to my parents neighbours house to lounge around in the pool with my sister yesterday. It was Alexis first experience in the pool. It went surprisingly well, she didn't hate it, but I wasn't sure she loved it either. She never cried so I guess that means she would go in again. I didn't dunk her at all, just put her in up to her waist. Here are some pictures we took of the day.

- Enjoy

3 Months Old!

Alexis is 3 months old! Seriously where does the time go? I can't believe that my little baby is growing so fast! I love seeing her grow and all the new things she is learning to do, she's quite the little character right now! Here are her "stats" for 3 months old! I won't be able to tell you how much she weights or how long she is, as she doesn't go back to the doctors until next month for her 4 month needles (eek I don't even want to think about them yet!).

At Three Months Old Alexis:

  • Is just starting to wear size 2 diapers ... I was being frugal and making her finish wearing the size 1 diapers we had left ... poor girl was busting out of them.

  • Eats about 5 - 5 1/2 ounce bottles a day which consist of both breast milk and formula.

  • Is starting to sleep through the night! (yay!) She usually will go to bed any time between 9-11pm and wake up sometime in the morning between 4-7am - I know this could be a phase but I am enjoying it.

  • Usually has a solid power nap in the morning, but likes her cat naps (30 mins.) in the afternoon.

  • Can hold her head up fine now without any help.

  • Is a drool monster! I don't know what it is, but she constantly soaks her shirts so I've started to have to keep bibs on her at all times.

  • Loves to smile at you. I love going to get her out of her crib in the morning and she flashes one of her BIG smiles! Daddy usually gets big smiles too from her!

  • Can hold her head up and move it from side to side when laying on her stomach or back.

  • Loves to cuddle on your chest and just hang out there.

  • Loves to play! She likes sitting her in exersaucer - she doesn't do much but will stare at the flashing lights for a good 20 mins.

  • Is a chatty one! Her new thing also is to have long and serious talk with you. She enjoys telling stores, and sometimes scares herself with the loudness of her own voice (must get that from her father). You will find she also throws in a couple giggles and laughs here and there, which is priceless!

  • Has definitely found her hands - and THUMBS! You will often see her search for that darn thumb and once she finds it, in it goes into the mouth. I also caught her the other night starring at her feet ... she must be aware that they are attached now as well haha!

  • Watches Noelle move around the house while she is sitting, and is quite interested in her at the moment.

[ I goofed and forgot to grab her lamb for the picture ... next month I will remember! ]

1st Father's Day!

Happy First Father's Day to Derek!!! We also want to wish our Fathers and Grandfathers a Happy Father's Day!!! Enjoy it!!

New Pictures

Here are some recent pictures that I promised, Alexis is now starting to hold her head up really well! It's not as "floppy" anymore, and she's able to sit in her Bumbo chair pretty well! She's found her hands and for majority of the day has them in her mouth and is drooling all over the place!

Yesterday we went to the States to do some shopping for the first time, so it was Alexis first trip out of Canada, and she did pretty well. We got her lots of cute clothes (I can't help myself when they are so dirt cheap there) and we bought her an exersaucer that will allow her to get more activity (she will probably be able to use it in a couple weeks).

Things are Looking Up!

So I'm not sure if it has to do with all my pumping sessions or the herbs and water intake, but today I actually noticed quite a difference in my milk supply! Thank god! I have quite a few bottles ready in the fridge and was even able to freeze a bag because I had left overs! After thinking about it, I am going to continue to supplement 1 oz. with formula in her bottles, because eventually this is what she will get when I finally decided to stop pumping. My new goal is to make it to 3 months, and I will reassess then how much longer I want to go.

I know I said I would add pictures, but I haven't had the time lately, and have been so dead tired with all the pumping and playing with Alexis that any chance during the day I get now, I have been napping. They will get up though!

We've Got Trouble ...

So the last week I've been experiencing a drop in my breast milk supply. For whatever reason, I'm not pumping out as much as I was able to before, and since Alexis is eating more now, we've got some serious problems. I talked with nurse from the Health Unit, and she suggested pumping more often, as well as continue taking the herbs and medication my doctor had already prescribed me. She also thinks I should try renting one of the hospital pumps to see if they make a difference, but in the meantime if I'm not getting enough for Alexis bottles I am to top them up with formula. This really upsets me. I wanted to pump for as long as I could, but probably eventually stop around 5-6 months to start to introduce formula and baby cereal and eventually baby food. But not it looks like Alexis could possibly be on formula sooner, if things to get back to normal. I'm glad that she's getting the breast milk because its good for her and has all those nice antibodies, and I feel like I'm letting her down ... but the health nurse assured me that some mom's that breastfeed don't last as long as I do and I've been pumping since the first week. Anyways, that's just a little update on what's been going on here. I will keep you posted, so far, since I've now been pumping every 2 hours I get enough to ensure she has a bottle, but I don't know how long I can go doing this as its taking a toll on my body and sleep (I hardly are getting any since I have to get up every 2 hours during the night to pump ... and last night Alexis slept for 7 hours! but I didn't even get to enjoy it because I was up twice pumping ... uggghhh)
