So the last week I've been experiencing a drop in my breast milk supply. For whatever reason, I'm not pumping out as much as I was able to before, and since Alexis is eating more now, we've got some serious problems. I talked with nurse from the Health Unit, and she suggested pumping more often, as well as continue taking the herbs and medication my doctor had already prescribed me. She also thinks I should try renting one of the hospital pumps to see if they make a difference, but in the meantime if I'm not getting enough for Alexis bottles I am to top them up with formula. This really upsets me. I wanted to pump for as long as I could, but probably eventually stop around 5-6 months to start to introduce formula and baby cereal and eventually baby food. But not it looks like Alexis could possibly be on formula sooner, if things to get back to normal. I'm glad that she's getting the breast milk because its good for her and has all those nice antibodies, and I feel like I'm letting her down ... but the health nurse assured me that some mom's that breastfeed don't last as long as I do and I've been pumping since the first week. Anyways, that's just a little update on what's been going on here. I will keep you posted, so far, since I've now been pumping every 2 hours I get enough to ensure she has a bottle, but I don't know how long I can go doing this as its taking a toll on my body and sleep (I hardly are getting any since I have to get up every 2 hours during the night to pump ... and last night Alexis slept for 7 hours! but I didn't even get to enjoy it because I was up twice pumping ... uggghhh)

Awww Allison, sorry to hear that. But don't feel bad. You are doing everything you can, and I think you're doing far more than most moms would at this point! :)
