To The Beach

We took Alexis to the beach yesterday morning.

She's never been, so we thought this was the perfect time.  She didn't enjoy it however.  She wasn't sure about the sand, and once we got close to the water, she didn't like the sound of it.

The water of course was freezing!  I think we were there, all of 10 minutes, but it was nice to get out and do something together as a family!

Hope you enjoyed your long weekend with your family as well!

We would like to thank our daughter, for letting her parents sleep in today until 7am, after weeks of getting us up between 5am and 5:30 am.  We greatly appreciate it!

Busy Bee!

This morning, Derek and I decided we would take a drive down to Port Stanley, and let Alexis explore the sand and water.  I was able to capture some pictures, although Alexis was all that impressed with the water. In her defense it was freakin' frackin freezing! But nonetheless we went for a little drive, saw the sand and water, ate at the beach, then drove home. A nice little holiday outing. I will post pictures soon from the day.

I was also able to get some things done around the house today, surprisingly. I've started to paint the main bathroom - yes the one with the ugly mint coloured green.  I told one of my friends today that I started to paint it last night, and she thought I had already painted it - that nasty green colour! I quickly corrected her and told her that I would NEVER use that colour anywhere in my house lol.  So I started to edge in there. It is definitely going to need a couple coats.  But I'm excited with the progress!

While that was drying I filled in some nail holes in our trim in the living room - something that has needed to be done since we moved in and I have just never got around to doing it!  I also painted one of the risers on the stairs downstairs to see what it would look like.  Remember this is what I was working with.

Tomorrow I have some time to myself and the house so I plan on getting some more stuff done - that is if I can get up and get at it. These last couple weeks Derek and I have been up at 5am with Alexis. It seems as though Alexis' internal clock has her getting up between 5am and 6am most mornings.  So by her bedtime I'm usually done, but I have to watch my shows, and then I get thinking about all the projects around the house that need to be either started or finished .... so unless I treat myself tomorrow to some "me" time back in bed after she's gone, I will be gettin' at those projects. Wish me luck!
I love this girl. Love her place, love how she designs. Look at these amazing rooms!

Looooovvveeee.

P.S. - She made that ottoman herself! I want it!

Need to Get the Juices Flowing

So, I myself are in some need of creative help.  I need to put on my thinking cap and figure out what to do on this wall.  It needs something ... right now.

I was thinking either buying some nice graphic/modern decals as something different ... maybe something like these ...

You can get them in different colours so naturally since this is a green wall, I would get them in black ( I think).

Or I could find some one of a kind art, like this ...

I love Monet, and this is my favourite picture ... I just love all the vibrant colours that artist has used. This would definitely add some much need colour, and pizazz to the wall, and be a nice focal point.

I had also seen some iron wall art at Home Sense the last time I went there. Nothing that would fit the scale of the wall however. It was either too small, and would look awkward, or too weird.

I also have thought about a collage of mismatched picture frames with family pictures in them, hung in a random pattern, something like this ... (hung more vertically of course).

Or a nice chunky mirror that has a great design, something like the one at our front door, that I managed to score on sale at Winners for $20. That would be great!

Or this one would work too, and I like that it would reflect the light from the door (once we get a new one with a window - just another thing on our list!)

This is a dominate wall that people pass all the time to go down to the family room, so it needs to be interesting ... I'm hoping to find something relatively cheap, and interesting soon! Wish me luck!

A Little Inspiration?

With this being an extra long weekend for Derek and myself this Canada day, I've been itching to get some things done around the house - naturally.  Some painting needs to be finished, I wanted to try a paint swatch on the bathroom wall to check out the colour, Derek needs to install another door downstairs, and two new toilet seats (lol don't ask) ... and all this and hanging and enjoying our weekend with Alexis and our family and friends.   Now that I'm looking around the living room, I could fill in some trim holes and give it another coat of paint lol ... this is what happens when Derek goes golfing, Alexis is napping, and I'm left to my own devices!  But I thought I would post some inspirational house/home/ decorating pictures on here (since I don't have any pictures from this weekend yet to post) that I have saved.

I can't wait ... Derek and I have been asked to be in the wedding party of two of our very close friends.  Derek is to be the best man, and I am to be a bridesmaid. This is a destination wedding that will be happening just two months shy of our 5 year anniversary if being married (January 2012).  We are so thrilled and excited for our friends, and couldn't be happier or feel more privilege to help partake in their upcoming nuptials.  Congratulations you guys - you know who you are, and we love ya!
